We had a wonderful break at The Old Church in Skye in a quiet part of the Island. The owner Carole was very friendly and helpful about the house and the area. It is perfect for 8 people to stay comfortably. There are beautiful walks nearby and stunning scenery. Highly recommended!
I only wish we could have stayed longer!!
I cannot sing the praises of the Old Church cottage highly enough. It was absolutely wonderful, with everything you need for a stay on Skye. We were a group of 9 from the U.S. (two families with a mix of adults and teens/tweens) and this house held us all comfortably, with plenty of beds, living room space to gather in the evenings, a giant dining room table where we could all eat together, and a fabulous brand-new, fully-stocked kitchen where we cooked breakfasts and dinners for all of us. Working with Carole the owner to arrange our stay was a joy, she is so friendly and accommodating. And the location is very convenient to the ferry, and steps away from a cozy little restaurant/pub (where the guys from our clan of Americans got whipped at pool by some hilarious chaps up from Glasgow.) Every day after we went out exploring the island, it was so delightful to come "home" to the Old Church. Just fantastic.
Comfortable property with in a great village location
The Old Church is a large property which can comfortably accommodate 10 adults, though as it was we were a group of 7. It is located in a village with good amenities (as well as the Mallaig ferry), the pub in particular is warm and friendly with decent meals. There was a bus service nearby though obviously most exploration is more conveniently completed by car. The property has large, comfortable social areas for dining and relaxing, especially the snug near the excellent wood burner. The bedrooms are well appointed, with plenty of reading material should the Skye Weather Gods not look favourably upon you! We went off season so a great deal of tourist attractions and restaurants were closed, however we can't recommend enough some of the walks nearby - so scenic for such little effort! It's also very close to more challenging hikes around the Cuillins if you're so inclined. Portree, Broadford, Carbost (Talisker Whisky!) are all within an hours drive, with Uig, Dunvegan, and the Trotternish Peninsula (stunning!) all very accessible also. Overall I can't recommend the Old Church enough, particularly for large walking groups. It's cosy, conveniently located, well provisioned, and also large enough so you don't get under each other's feet.
What an experience!
My wonderful experience started with Carole the owner, we communicated often via email as I had problems receiving information - Carole was very patient, friendly and helpful. (Thank you!) 6 of us spent 4 days and 3 nights at the Old Church Cottage and quite simply loved it. The original ‘church’ sense is very strong but with a unique character of its own. Three clean, large bathrooms, 2 large dining areas, 2 sitting areas: we had more than enough room. Quirky touches like the stained glass window and the books in every room just made the cottage. Skye is of course very picturesque but there were literally beautiful views from every window! Everything you could need and more were provided and there are nearby shops for extras. What amazing memories we were able to create here as a family - 10/10
Welcoming family friendly property in the "Garden of Skye"
This is a beautiful house, converted with taste from a former small chapel. It is extremely well equipped and well maintained. Its location is superb, being a very short distance from the ferry, across the road from a pub and shop and ideally located for exploring the southern half of Skye. The layout of the house and garden allows members of a larger group to find their own space or to come together in the lounge, dining room or kitchen area. The attitudes of and responses from the owners were extremely positive.
Beautiful and unique
A great place to stay - beautiful accommodation, space to cook and relax in the evenings, the owners were very nice and supportive, and we had everything we needed.
Lovely house, lovely location
The house was great, there was more than enough room for all 10 of us. Everything was clean and set-up for us coming in and the owner was very helpful in making sure that everything we needed to start off with was there (loo roll, tea and coffee, milk, wood for the fire etc). The location was beautiful. Thanks for a great holiday, we would definitely come back!
Fantastic family holiday
The old church is like a home from home!! We have previously rented the house before the changes and was the first time we have seen the improvements we love the en-suite it is quirky and in-keeping with the style of the house. Our two year old daughter loved to see the water from the window in the living room and the spacious garden. The owner responded quickly to our e-mail as we booked last minute and could not be more helpful. The only problem with the old church is having to leave!
Instant homely atmosphere
Breathtaking, stunning, warm, and welcoming. All are applicable to this gorgeous property. The care to maintain certain original aspects of the actual church it once was just add to the charm. I particularly love the tall arched window in the living area at the rear of the property, with beautiful views. Definitely a firm favourite of mine
STUNNING SELF CATERING PROPERTY.
We spent this last weekend here and the property is fantastic.. Sleat is a gorgeous area of Skye and this house is an ideal base. Lots of room,, loads of lovely little touches and it is very well equipped. There is also great broadband with about 6 devices between us logged in at any time. Really is ideal for a big group with distinct areas around the place to relax.
Amazing Amazing Amazing
This property & everything it offers is all you could ever want. It feels like a home rather than a holiday cottage & sort of welcomes you with a big hug the minute you set eyes on it. I loved every second. The owner is a delight & you can tell that the cottage is a labour of love. They seem to have thought of everything might need & things that you didn't even know you would need! Another big plus for my husband was that the pub is only 50 yards away!
“Exceeded all expectations”
Such a beautiful and spacious gem of a find! The 5 of us felt immediately at home. The cottage has ample space for lounging, whether in front of the TV, or next to the fireplace after a long day out. Meals were a pleasure to prepare in the very well equipped kitchen. Multiple bathrooms with bath and shower meant no queueing in the mornings! The cottage has 2 fridges and a utility room with dishwasher, washing machine, and tumble dryer (amongst others). The bedrooms are incredibly comfortable and tastefully furnished. | cannot recommend this beautiful cottage highly enough. The owner's have put so much care and attention to detail into both the lovely decorating and practicality of the place. Communication before, during, and after the trip has been honest, helpful and so friendly. This was a perfect base from which to explore the beautiful Isle of Skye! Will definitely be returning here.
